Not long ago, I was in the kitchen making dinner while Cindy and the kids were watching TV in the living room.
An ad came on for some reality show focusing on people's extravagant 40th birthday parties. Our girls often talked about watching the ridiculous "Sweet 16" parties on a similar show, and it struck me as slightly beyond pathetic that now the 40-something crowd was trying to claim that market as their own.
So I spoke up...
I hollered from the kitchen, "Oh PLEASE!! Is that another show for old people?"
To which my loving, caring, life-giving wife immediately, without skipping a beat said...
"Hey guys, Mikey's turning 40 this year!"
Ouch!
Ouch indeed!
ReplyDeleteHeartless, just plain heartless. Well really its more like funny. But I am trying to be sympathetic.
ReplyDeleteOh FORTY,I laugh at FORTY!
ReplyDeleteAMATEUR!!!
Oh and BTW Heidi and Jeff are thinking that joining everyone at Dick and Dot's for the good ole Fourth of July might be fun and worth the gas. If they go I think we would probably show up too and who knows that might even entice stinky Donald to come along. We do have questions of course. Having never been there I don't really even know where it is or what lake it's on. Also can anyone of the Brinkerhoff persuasion just show up or can they only accomodate so many and then the welcome mat gets pulled in? I have several more questions that I can't think of at the moment so this may actually require a phone call.
ReplyDeleteSuzan - The welcome mat would never get pulled in! And besides if it did we live only a few short minutes over the bridge and there will always be room for you all here, even room for stinky ole Donald! I am SO excited at the prospect of your visit!!! Woohoo - a happy fourth of July indeed :) Oh and Richard will be thrilled as well!
ReplyDeleteJennifer - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!!!
ReplyDeleteJan & Susan - WHATEVS!!! (that's how the cool kids who are under forty say 'whatever')
Cindy - I just got an email back from Richard about the 4th, and he said (and I quote):
"That will be great. We'll look forward to it!"
So now you HAVE to come!
Actually, that last part was to Cindy, Susan, Heidi, Donald, and all the other Brinkerhoffspring in the greater Tri-Cities area!
ReplyDeleteWhere is it at? Do you bring food? Will there be enough beds? Are there fireworks? How long does the celebration last? Who else would be there? I am trying to know the answer to have a stronger argument with Jeff. Trying to justify the gas will be difficult. It sounds like a smashing good time to me.
ReplyDeleteBrent turned the big 4-0 last year and it came and went without any significant changes. You'll survive.
ReplyDelete"One year older and WISER TOO."
Wow, you are going to be 40? I guess it makes sense since I am going to be 31 in about 7 weeks or so. Or maybe it is 6 weeks. I can't remember in my older age. I have no idea what it will be like when I am your age. But hey, at least Lisa thinks you are younger than Brian right?
ReplyDeleteThat was Grim from Billy and Mandy in the picture, right?
