Okay.. For those of you who have followed our Adoption Saga thus far, you know that there's no question the whole thing has been made up of one miracle after another, and that every time we've had a disheartening blow, it's been followed by another amazing occurrence.
If you don't know about the most recent blow, just scroll down a little. Then come back up.
I'll wait.......
Okay.
So, when Danee was born and we moved into the NICU, her next door neighbor was a little boy named Kenji. Kenji's parents were really nice, and seemed to be up at the hospital even more often than we were - and that's really saying something!
One day, Cindy and Kenji's mom Kjerste started talking... Kjerste always seemed to be pumping breast milk for her baby, which we thought was really great. As they talked, Kjerste mentioned that the hospital had actually asked her not to bring any more milk in, as they had run out of room to store it all!
Kenji was released last week, but before he left, Cindy and Kjerste swapped contact info, and talked about possibly sharing her abundant supply of Mommy's Milk.
A couple days ago, we got an email from her that SHE had run out of freezer space, and needed to get rid of some milk ASAP.
We just got back from picking it up, and let me tell ya.. She wasn't kidding! Every cold space in her house had little jars of milk. She couldn't believe that she was producing so much this time around! With her first child it was nowhere NEAR this level.
We know why she's producing so much...
While reading information about "milk banking" as it's called, Cindy read that for a preemie baby, it's best to get milk from a mom who also has a preemie baby. Hmmm... Kenji was in the NICU as a preemie. Danee is in the NICU as a preemie. MATCH!
As we were talking today, we all "Got It," that her more than ample supply of milk was Heavenly Father's gift (well, one of many gifts, actually) to Danee!
And just in case you think we're exaggerating the sheer volume of milk we brought home, take a look at the door of our freezer.
See?? That's a lot of milk! But that's just the door. If you look INSIDE the freezer, you see the MotherLoad... heh... motherload... wow... TOTALLY unintentional, but now I'm cracking myself up!
All in all, that's 288 little jars and two bags of liquid gold! (especially the three gold coloured colostrum jars! They'll be FIRST on our feeding list!)
Thank you Kjerste! And Thanks to Kenji for sharing his Mommy's Milk!
that's a little gross. but cool.
ReplyDeleteHoly Cow. Got milk? Yes you do.
ReplyDeleteThat is perhaps, the most unbelievable thing I have ever seen. Seriously.
ReplyDeleteI think that's cool too, but I also agree with Jennifer a little bit. :)
ReplyDeleteThe hospital had to ask me to quit bringing in so much milk...I think that it is awesome that the mom could put her extra to such good use. I think it is so funny how we as humans get a certain image in our minds..."Breast Milk" = gross. Uhhhhhh, have you ever looked closely at a cow? Which is cleaner? Which is more pure? It is as God intended it and if you just don't picture the mother PUMPING the milk you'll be ok. :)
ReplyDeleteAmy - EXACTLY!! Thanks for being the voice of reason and reality!
ReplyDeleteI know that PETA wants Ben and Jerri's to start using breast milk for their ice cream.
ReplyDeleteWow!!! That is awesome! Looks like your all ready to go. Breast milk sure is best. Maybe this will help fatten her up quick.
ReplyDeleteThat really is incredible news you guys! What a wonderful lady to be so generous. Wouldn't it be amazing if one day 20 or so years from now Danee was to come home with a new guy in tow to meet her parents and his name just happened to be Kenji?!?
