We're back from tonight's visit to the hospital, and our little Danee is really being a champion!
Last night she was on the ventilator, and partly breathing on her own....
When we went to see her at lunchtime today, the ventilator was gone, and she had graduated to a CPAP machine, breathing "room air" or 21% oxygen, all on her own! During that mid-day visit, Cindy got to change her first Danee Diaper, which the nurse said had a really good amount or pee in it, which shows that her kidneys and other internal organs are kicking in!
Tonight's visit didn't have much new, other than some quality finger squeezes...
At one point, she squeezed my finger so tight her little fingertips turned white... I'm totally taking that as an "I Love Daddy!" moment...
Another thing we observed today is that Danee isn't really crazy about being bound up tight like a Baby Burrito, the way the nurses always want to wrap her. She fusses and fidgets, and is getting very good at working her way out of the blankie wrap!
Another thing she has made clear is that she does NOT like wet diapers. She was so fidgety tonight that we unwrapped her all the way to check on the diaper.
It wasn't very wet, so we wrapped her back up... and within minutes, her hand was out again... Funny girl... Still can't wait to actually be able to hold her, kiss her, feed her, snuggle her.
Now it's off to bed, while I still get un-interrupted sleep at night!
Congratulations you guys!! This is so exciting!! She is very cute and very little. Can't wait to meet her. Jonathan and I would like to have your family over for dinner as soon as things aren't so crazy for you. Let us know when would be a good time.

She is so tiny!
ReplyDeleteI love that she squeezes your fingers...she is a strong one!
Thanks for the updates and pictures! I have been thinking a lot about her :)
I am so glad that she is improving so quickly. HAve the kids been able to see her yet?
ReplyDeleteNicole & Jonathan - Thanks for the offer!! We'll take you up on it soon!
ReplyDeleteAmy - the kids haven't been able to see her yet... Kaylee's been home from school with a nasty cold for the past two days, and Ellysa has been so busy with school work she hasn't had a chance yet. By the weekend, we hope to have all the kids down there. For now, they just get the excitement of us bringing new pictures home every night.
These posts Mike, are getting me all crazy weepy happy joy. Love them. I am so happy for all of you. That include Danee for getting some awesome parents. Lucky her and lucky you guys. So glad she is getting her pee on or in or out. :)
ReplyDeleteI love these updates on Danee. It's truly a miracle to hear about her progress.
ReplyDeletePersonality already! She is going to be a fun one I can tell. :) Tell her that cousin Heidi says I love you!
ReplyDeleteCongratuations you two!
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a shock to hear about what you are doing!
And how wonderful that this little girl has a family that will love her. You will have to tell us the entire story when you have time as to how you came to know Danee's Mother. What do the other four kids think about all this?
